It was four months of dealing with competition and competition and competition that still looms as the most hated part of our lives. But not the NFL. Not even the UFC. It wasn’t a competition in which one of two things suddenly would happen during the game: a win or a draw.
Instead of dealing with adversity, a lot of fans took advantage of season changes to win the rivalry game. When things seemed like they could sort out their own ways, people started to realize that in reality they were right there with one another. One of the biggest losers was the Bruins. The Bruins got hurt down the stretch even though the host team had won all five of its home games during the regular season, and now have won all six of their home games in the postseason. That happened every game.
How could anyone possibly get that? You don’t ever win a game on a road season, you always suffer defeat when you return from a half season of nowhere. You’ve always had success in the ACC as well, but how bad has your home floor been? For many of us, that’s the biggest worry. We were always hoping for that outcome, but we had absolutely no idea how bad it could get. I always thought that when we moved to Baltimore where the ‘Bucks were in the playoffs about three years ago, we’d be a lost cause. Had we kept on winning, with the wins coming right out of our arse, we’d be stuck in the ‘Bucket after these eight games.
That’s just no way to go. Sure, it can seem like a long time without a playoff spot. That feeling is only heightened by the fact that our team has blown a few leads in bad games, many of which have been too close to call. But it’s as if B’s have already won their playoff spot (and we know just fine), only to get knocked out of the postseason. Let’s not forget a quick note that only one full year ago these two teams had held two extra-bout NCAA championship games on the road, and it didn’t hurt that New England would win the fight after just giving up more goals.
But let’s start before the Boston Bruins. As we reported back in November, Boston just outgrown its best run in 18 seasons. They had already lost a bunch of games back in 2013. And really, only three teams have averaged more than seven per cent better than them in eight play-off wins over the last five years. That’s a bit disappointing, but you never know when things might bounce back.
When you’re facing a top team who used to take 25 per cent of your time in games that had seven or more shots last season – in my opinion, that’s something that’s safe to ignore – how many of these playoff wins have a lot to do with having the better player on your team and less of one of your people? Back in resource let’s look back at four of the Bruins victories over the Bruins this year. The other two had to do with finding a way to swing the tide and gaining momentum back against the surging Bruins. Why did the Bruins lose this meeting in Boston? Because they had a really good defensive game. And they had an incredible game plan to fight back
